Construction and rehab of a home can be complex and expensive, but Kentucky Housing Corporation’s (KHC) offers programs and partners that provide financial assistance for new construction, critical repairs, and energy-saving improvements.
Building a New House
KHC’s Single-Family Homebuyer Development Program strives to increase the availability of quality, affordable housing for low- and very low-income households across Kentucky.
Through this program, newly constructed or rehabilitated single-family detached homes are developed to provide safe, decent, and affordable homeownership opportunities.
Eligible individuals must apply through local agencies that have been awarded the HOME Investment Partnership or Affordable Housing Trust Fund dollars to build homes. These partners are awarded funding to serve specific counties and are responsible for guiding applicants through the homebuyer process and ensuring compliance with program guidelines.
Repairing an Existing Home
KHC’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) Home Repair Program is designed to assist low-income homeowners with essential repairs that help maintain the safety, livability, and overall habitability of their homes.
This program focuses on critical improvements such as structural repairs, roofing, heating, plumbing, and accessibility modifications. To access AHTF funding in Kentucky, individuals must apply through designated partner agencies within their county.
These local agencies will guide applicants through the process and determine eligibility based on income and repair needs. All applications and funding requests must be submitted through these approved agencies.
Lowering Utility Bills
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), funded through the U.S. Department of Energy and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, provides energy audits and installs energy saving measures to lower the utility bills for a homeowner or renter.
To be eligible, households must be at or below 200 percent of the poverty level.
